Government offices and public services in Lawrence will be closed this week in observance of Christmas Day.

All city, county, state and federal offices will be closed Thursday. Federal offices in the General Services Administration, the federal courts and Lawrence city offices will be open on Friday, but state and county offices are closed.

Douglas County District Court will be closed Thursday and Friday. There will also be no public access for the Lawrence Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center, 111 E. 11th St., on Friday. Emergency functions will be available, and anyone who needs to contact a Lawrence police or Douglas County Sheriff’s officer can call dispatchers at 832-7509. A call box is also on the south side of the building.

Banks will be closed Thursday.

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will be closed Wednesday and Thursday and open Friday.

Lawrence Transit System buses will not run Thursday.

City of Lawrence residential and commercial refuse and trash collection scheduled for Thursday will be picked up on Friday instead.

Parking meters in downtown Lawrence will be free Thursday.

The South Park Recreation Center will be closed Wednesday and Thursday and open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. Recreation centers at Holcom Park, East Lawrence and the Community Building will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday and closed Thursday.

The Prairie Park Nature Center will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and closed Thursday. The Indoor Aquatic Center will be closed Thursday.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

The U.S. Postal Service won’t make deliveries Thursday, and post offices will be closed. UPS and FedEx will not make regular deliveries Thursday.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels will not deliver meals Thursday or Friday. Dinners will be delivered from the Lawrence Community Christmas Dinner on Thursday and can be ordered by calling 841-7500.

The customer service department of the Journal-World will be open for calls and walk-ins from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday. It will be open regular hours Friday.

USA Today will not be published Thursday.

Liquor stores will be closed Thursday.
