Leawood man picked as Union Station CEO

A Leawood man who was recently a finalist to be president and CEO of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce has been tapped to lead Union Station Kansas City Inc.

The board of directors on Thursday evening announced George M. Guastello II as its new president and CEO following the resignation of former CEO Andi Udris, who will now pursue other business opportunities in economic development.

Guastello is the owner of GMG Consulting, which helps small businesses with marketing and strategy.

He had previously served as president of the nonprofit American Royal Association in Kansas City, Mo., and a vice president for the Starlight Theatre Association.

Earlier this year, he interviewed for the Lawrence chamber position, but chamber board members chose Tom Kern, of the Fairfax County, Va., chamber for the post.

Guastello will be in charge of the historical landmark near downtown Kansas City, plus Science City and the Kansas City Museum.

“I look forward to working in partnership with the board, associates, volunteers and civic and political leaders to build on the rich tradition of the past, while creating dynamic opportunities that engage the whole community,” Guastello said.
