Douglas County AIDS Project is in need of toys for the children that the agency serves. Currently, DCAP has nine children that are in need of gifts this holiday season. Anyone who would like to donate a gift is asked to do so before Dec. 22 so they can be delivered by Dec. 23.

Immediate needs

• Jubilee Café is in dire need of volunteers over the holiday season, while KU students are on break. Anyone available to serve or cook breakfast for Lawrence’s homeless population is asked to come to First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., on Tuesday or Friday mornings from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

• Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care is seeking volunteers to help serve terminally ill patients. Volunteers will provide companionship, assist with errands, share and listen. Volunteers trained in massage therapy, art/music therapy or guided meditation/imagery are also needed. No prior medical knowledge is needed and volunteer training is available. Must be available to volunteer for one full year. If interested, contact Sarah Rooney 331-4812 or e-mail sarahro@vna-ks.org.

• The Salvation Army needs bell ringers. If you would like to help the Salvation Army this holiday season, contact Aaron Smith at 843-4188, ext. 102.
