Tanker, semi-trailer truck involved in accident

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical crews drain diesel fuel from a damaged Hamm Quarry’s semi-trailer truck involved in an accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 24-59 onto U.S. Highway 24-40.

An accident involving a tanker truck and a semi-trailer truck caused traffic to make a short detour around the Teepee Junction intersection Saturday afternoon.

No one was injured, but both trucks had considerable damage, according to Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Ty Siebert.

At around 2 p.m. Saturday, a Rollet Brothers Trucking Co. tanker truck hit a Hamm Quarry’s semi-trailer truck.

The tanker truck driver, Alan Best, 55 of Topeka, failed to yield as he was making a left-hand turn from the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 24-59 onto U.S. Highway 24-40, Siebert said. The Hamm Quarry truck was heading north on U.S. Highway 24-59.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical crews were called on scene to clean up a diesel fuel leak coming from the Hamm Quarry truck.
