Intrust Bank president leaves for CrossPoint

Mike Maddox has left his post as regional president at Intrust Bank to become president and chief executive officer of CrossPoint Bank in Overland Park.

Maddox goes from being president of Intrust’s Northeast Kansas region to being the top executive at CrossPoint, which has a single location on College Boulevard in Overland Park. CrossPoint was chartered last year and has about 170 shareholders, most in the Kansas City metro area.

“It’s a great opportunity for me to take the next challenge in my career … and have the opportunity to lead an organization and put my stamp on an organization,” Maddox said. “I’m just excited about the opportunity to grow a bank.”

Maddox, who lives in Leawood, met personally with Intrust employees Wednesday to inform them of his departure.

“It’s a real unique opportunity for him,” said Doug Gaumer, Intrust’s community bank president in Lawrence. “He was a real integral part of Intrust Bank. We will miss him. We wish him well.”

At CrossPoint, Maddox reports to a board whose chair is Ron Baldwin, who previously spent 10 years at Wichita-based Intrust, having left in 2005 as its president and chief operating officer.

Maddox had worked at Intrust since 2000, when he became community bank president in Lawrence.

He was promoted in 2004 to president of the Northeast Kansas region, which has 12 locations in Lawrence, Topeka, Junction City, Manhattan and Johnson County; Intrust has three locations in Lawrence.

In September, CrossPoint reported having 13 employees, $46.8 million in deposits and $63.7 million in assets. At the same time, Intrust reported having 939 employees, $2.5 billion in deposits and $3.4 billion in assets.

Intrust has an exclusive contract to provide credit cards, check cards and gift cards featuring Kansas University’s Jayhawk logo, including one that honors the Jayhawks’ 2008 NCAA basketball title.

Maddox was a forward on KU’s 1988 national championship basketball team.
