Man arrested in connection with possible meth lab at Lawrence apartment
A man was arrested on drug charges Friday night in connection with a possible methamphetamine lab at a Lawrence apartment complex.
Lawrence police executed a search warrant about 2 p.m. Friday at 2530 Redbud Lane, said Kim Murphree, police spokeswoman. A Drug Enforcement Agency drug task force assisted the police.
Officers in hazardous-materials suits carried bottles of chemicals commonly used to manufacture methamphetamine from a second-floor apartment, which was cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape. Several bottles of chemicals were strewn about the front yard of the complex.
Officers from the DEA task force, who specialize in the cleanup of methamphetamine, were responsible for evidence collection at the scene, Murphree said.
The search warrant was part of an ongoing drug investigation, Lawrence police Sgt. Max Miller said, but police have not confirmed that they uncovered a meth lab.
A 48-year-old man was arrested in connection with the case. Police charged him with the sale or distribution of and unlawful acts relating to the possession of opiates, opium, narcotic drugs or designated stimulants.
District Attorney Charles Branson’s office is reviewing the case, a spokeswoman said, but no charges have been filed.
