Military academies put on info session at FSHS

High school students interested in attending any of the country’s service academies will have a chance to learn more about the academies at an event Thursday at Free State High School.

Representatives from the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., will be present to talk to students about the academies and their application processes. Information about the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y., and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., will be available.

Applicants must include a Congressional recommendation in their packets, and staff members from the offices of U.S. Reps. Nancy Boyda, D-Kan., and Dennis Moore, D-Kan., as well as Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., will be present to answer questions about the nomination process.

The event takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
