Group meets Monday to help save the T

A new campaign to save the city’s public transit system is having an organization meeting on Monday.

The public is invited to the event sponsored by Grassroots Action from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

The group, which previously had tried to convince the City Commission to raise property taxes to fund the Lawrence bus system, is working to create a campaign for the Nov. 4 sales tax election.

Voters in November are being asked to support two sales taxes totaling a quarter percent to provide funding for the transit system.

At Monday’s meeting, the group is hoping to organize a speaker’s tour, an advertising campaign and fundraising efforts to urge passage of the sales tax.
