Lawrence police released a narrative of how three teenagers were injured when their car flipped over on Sixth Street last Tuesday.
A police report stated that the 17-year-old driver of a 1993 Honda Accord swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle in front of it. The car struck a drainage culvert and flipped over as many as four times before coming to rest on its roof.
An investigation as to why the vehicle flipped on Sixth Street between Stoneridge Drive and Queens Road continues.
Erica Smith, 17, remains in serious condition at Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan., after being transported by air ambulance. She was ejected from the back seat of the vehicle.
Two teenage boys, including the driver, were injured in the accident and transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Was the vehicle in front of them stopped on the street? Or were they moving faster than the vehicle and didnt see it until too late? Remains unclear.
