Iran threat

August 10, 2008

To the editor:

There is a rather "large bear" in Iran's part of the world who really doesn't want nuclear weapons close to their southern border, especially from a country who might assist militants fighting against that bear.

Recent history shows that this "bear" also has been slow in constructing and equipping the nuclear reactor they're building for Iran.

For those advocating that the U.S. or Israel attack the Iranian nuclear infrastructure, I'd suggest relaxing.

That "bear" already has more pervasive access to that infrastructure, and, when the time comes, they will act. Meanwhile we can avoid any negative reaction because the attack won't have come from us.

I don't think Israel will care what the United States, Russia, or the rest of the world thinks. When the time comes, Israel will destroy anything nuclear that Iran possesses. Also, are you really willing to fully trust Russia?

The USA made Israel the 6 largest nuclear power in the world. That seems like an insane approach to world peace.

Merrill's point was that the US actions contribute to war and destruction. If we believe in acheiving peaceful resolutions to conflicts, we should probably stop arming other nations with nuclear weapons.

Ok, lets trust that gentle bear that just attacked a small child living next door (Georgia) only one year after breaking into one neighbor's house (cyber war against Estonia) and two years after attacking another neighbor (the poisoning of a Ukrainian presidential candidate). He seems quite trustworthy.

Sounds like a smart bear. I wonder if any bears in our country know how to construct and equip nuclear reactors? Yogi Bear knew how to talk, so he might.

Bears steal food from campers and have been know to sometimes eat babies.

@MerrillEverytime I see a comment by Merrill, I simply crack up. It's great fun.If the world were as simple to explain and it's problems as easy as you make them out to be, this life would be a cake walk. As it is, it's not easy and the question of what contributes or deters world peace is also not easy.Just because the US gave Israel nukes does not mean that the US destablized the region. Israel was in the fight of its life during the middle-to-end of the 20th century. They're surrounded by thug nations that want to commit mass genocide and so the US gave them a big stick to prevent the other nations from striking the match that would ignite the dynamite.Your way of looking at this is waaaay too simplistic.
