Gas-saving tip
To the editor:
Hats off to Gina Bailey-Carbaugh for her insightful advice to us to slow down (“Why are we in such a hurry,” Journal-World, Aug. 6). I have been commuting on K-10 since 1978, usually speeding along at 75 mph. Two years ago, I began my own experiment and slowed down to 60.
It was difficult at first as others whizzed by. It is difficult on a long trip, but the pay off at the pump is amazing. Now I fill up once a week instead of twice a week. I am constantly amused that the lists of gas-saving tips often exclude the most obvious: Simply slow down! On a typical commute, you might arrive 5 minutes later, but you will notice the benefits in your pocketbook.
