Suspect arrested in connection with Kwik Shop gunfire case

Topeka authorities have apprehended a man wanted in connection with gunfire in June outside a Lawrence Kwik Shop, according to Lawrence police.

Emmanuel Rashad Walker, of Topeka, was arrested at 3 p.m. Thursday by a Topeka fugitive task force that included U.S. marshals, Topeka police, Shawnee County Sheriff’s officers and the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Walker was wanted in connection with shots fired during a fight June 7 outside the Kwik Shop at 19th and Massachusetts streets.

Witnesses said a gray Chevrolet Caprice and a red Honda Civic pulled into the store’s parking lot about 1:10 a.m. June 7; an argument among passengers in the cars ensued.

The Honda fled the parking lot and was chased by the Chevrolet. At least six gunshots were heard after the cars sped away, according to police.

Several shell casings were found on New Hampshire Street; bullet holes were found in three nearby houses.

Lawrence police earlier this week identified Walker as a suspect and asked for the public’s help in finding him.
