KUMC adds new electronic emergency notification system

Kansas University Medical Center officials are hoping a new set of emergency notification devices will better inform students in the event of an emergency.

Every classroom and floor in the university’s buildings now have an electronic beacon, which displays flashing red lights, sounds a sirens and displays a message on what type of emergency to prepare for.

“The safety of everyone on our campus is, of course, our highest priority,” KUMC vice chancellor Ed Phillips said in a statement.

In the event of an on-campus emergency, an e-mail will also be sent to students, faculty and staff and those who chose to opt-in to a text messaging service will also receive a message on their cell phones.
