Military ceremony to promote KU alumna

A Kansas University alumna will be promoted from major to lieutenant colonel during an 11:15 a.m. ceremony today at the KU Memorial Campanile.

Maj. Janet Holliday, a Great Bend native, graduated from KU in 1988 and joined the Army shortly after. She worked for the Armed Forces Radio and Television Service.

Holliday later returned to KU to earn a master’s degree in English.

Holliday, who spent three years teaching English at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, is now stationed at the Pentagon working for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In her next assignment, she will be commander of Carlisle Barracks in Pennsylvania.
