I-70 repaving set in Wyandotte Co.

A section of Interstate 70 is about to get a new $1.4 million layer of pavement.

The work, set to begin Monday and last through mid-October, will stretch along the interstate from 18th Street to 38th Street in Wyandotte County.

All lanes along the 1.2-mile stretch, plus interchange ramps at 18th Street, will get worked on: beginning with repairs to the existing road, then adding a 3-inch layer of pavement and – before lane striping – applying a coating to promote drainage and reduce hydroplaning, wet-weather spray and skidding.

Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction throughout the project, although ramps at the 18th Street interchange will be closed intermittently – likely for one or two days at a time – during nonpeak periods, such as weekends.
