More than 30 groups to attend volunteer fair

The Roger Hill Volunteer Center will have a volunteer fair from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.
Thirty-eight different agencies will be there to let you know what you can do to make our community a better place to live.
Immediate needs
¢ KVC Behavioral HealthCare Inc. is looking for a volunteer to tutor a 6-year-old four to five hours a week throughout the summer. She needs help with basic skills such as letter and number recognition.
Potential volunteers will need a Child Abuse and Neglect Check for the state of Kansas and a KBI check, which the agency will provide. The tutoring could take place in the foster home or in the community. Contact Kristen Paulson at (785) 331-4200 or kpaulson@kvc.org for more information.
¢ The Lawrence Youth Ensemble seeks volunteers to assist with a summer theater camp in South Park from 3 p.m to 5:30 p.m. May 27 through June 11.
Volunteers will be paired with a small group of children to play theater games and encourage imaginative play. No theater experience is necessary. There will be a volunteer orientation from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. May 10 in the Community Building gym, 119 W. 11th St.

¢ Lawrence Memorial Hospital seeks volunteers to transport patients by wheelchair, make deliveries throughout the building and run errands. Positions are open from noon to 4 p.m. Friday and from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Volunteers also are needed at Lawrence Memorial Hospital South to assist in the mammography waiting area from 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

¢ Douglas County Senior Services seeks a volunteer to fill a receptionist position two to three mornings or afternoons a week. The position includes answering the phone and greeting visitors in the lobby area. For more information, contact Tina Roberts at 842-0543.
¢ The Youth Volunteer Council is in need of young people ages 13 to 18 to assist with summer volunteering projects. YVC has many fun opportunities planned, such as working with animals at the Humane Society and helping children create Latin American art and theater projects with the Centro Hispano.
An informational meeting will be at 3 p.m. May 7 at Free State High School, Room 152, and at 3 p.m. May 8 in the library at Lawrence High School.
