Free-agent frenzy begins

Former Kansas University and Lawrence High football standout Brandon McAnderson has agreed in principle to a free-agent deal with the NFL’s St. Louis Rams.

McAnderson, a 6-foot, 235-pound fullback, was a 1,000-yard rusher for the Jayhawks, but was not picked in the seven-round NFL Draft this weekend. St. Louis showed immediate interest in signing him as a free agent once the draft concluded.

McClinton not yet signed

Former KU defensive tackle James McClinton remains unsigned and didn’t expect to get a deal in place Sunday night.

“We’re talking to some NFL teams,” said Kevin Robinson, McClinton’s agent.

Franchises might be hesitant due to some recent medical issues surrounding McClinton. The 6-foot, 290-pounder suffered a seizure in January, though he insists he’s fine.

Either way, the spiritual McClinton is keeping a positive attitude.

“The Lord will lead me to the team He wants me to be at,” McClinton said.
