Behind a complete-game, six-hitter from senior hurler Kelson Boyer, the Free State Firebirds improved to 9-1 on the season with an 8-3 victory over Shawnee Mission South on Tuesday at FSHS.
After surrendering two runs and two hits in the top of the first inning, Boyer settled down and gave up just one run and four hits in the final six. Meanwhile, the Free State High bats got going immediately, recording six hits and five runs in the first two innings to take command.
Next up for the Firebirds is a home game against Olathe South on Thursday.
