Lawrence residents among Boston Marathon finishers

Seven Lawrence residents competed in and finished this morning’s Boston Marathon with the best local finisher, Andrew L. Henshaw, completing the 26.2-mile race in 2:57:32.

Henshaw had the best local time and finished in 932nd overall and 899th among men. He averaged a 6:47 mile time. There were 25,283 people entered in this year’s race, 14,844 men and 10,439 women.

Other local competitors included Chris J. Nyberg in 4338th overall, 3876th among men; Karl Brooks in 5531st overall, 4788th among men; Jorge E. Carvajal in 6306th overall and 5344th among men; Rychel L. Ridenour in 7187th place, 1223rd among women; Susie Fagan in 9156th overall, 2209th among women; and Melanie K. Davies in 11930th overall, 3563rd among women.

Robert Cheruiyot of Kenya placed first overall for the men and Dire Tune of Ethiopia placed first among women. Their times were 2:07:46 and 2:25:25, respectively.

A Topeka woman, Marla K. Rhoden, took 11th place in the 50- to 59 year-old women category, the highest finisher in Kansas. Her time was 3:24:12.
