Mayor returns to City Hall after shooting

? The mayor of Kirkwood, Mo., has returned to City Hall after he was shot twice in the head at a council meeting.

Mike Swoboda didn’t participate in city business but did read a statement that drew a lengthy ovation from those attending Thursday’s council meeting.

The mayor was critically injured when a gunman shot him in February.

Two members of the council, two police officers and the city’s director of public works were killed. Police then shot and killed the gunman, a disgruntled resident named Charles “Cookie” Thornton.
