Hearing for pollution control permit set

A public hearing will take place Tuesday in Topeka concerning a Kansas water pollution control permit sought for the Westar Energy Center in St. Marys.

Westar is adding wet scrubbers to three stacks that will lessen the amount of air pollution emitted from the power plant. Westar, however, is still determining how to dispose of the waste without affecting Kansas River water quality.

The hearing will be at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Hall, 120 S.W. 10th St. An informational meeting will take place before the hearing at 6:30 p.m.
