Praise from Memphis

To the editor:

As a true blue Tiger fan from Memphis, I was greatly disappointed when our team did not win the NCAA tournament. My friend and I are faithful season ticket holders and we had been waiting many years for the Tigers to reach this level and were so excited to travel to San Antonio last week for our first Final Four.

I must say that everywhere we encountered Jayhawk fans, they were enthusiastic but never rude. We had some great conversations and wonderful camaraderie with several different groups in several different locations over the four days we were there. We all felt that our teams were well-matched and would provide us with a great game, which they absolutely did.

I just wanted to commend your fans and your team as this is what college sports should be all about. Name-calling and put-downs benefit no one. Good clean competition is a much more pleasant environment for all concerned and a better example for the children who attend. Celebrate your team and its victory and give yourselves a pat on the back for being great fans.
