Praise from Memphis

April 16, 2008

To the editor:

As a true blue Tiger fan from Memphis, I was greatly disappointed when our team did not win the NCAA tournament. My friend and I are faithful season ticket holders and we had been waiting many years for the Tigers to reach this level and were so excited to travel to San Antonio last week for our first Final Four.

I must say that everywhere we encountered Jayhawk fans, they were enthusiastic but never rude. We had some great conversations and wonderful camaraderie with several different groups in several different locations over the four days we were there. We all felt that our teams were well-matched and would provide us with a great game, which they absolutely did.

I just wanted to commend your fans and your team as this is what college sports should be all about. Name-calling and put-downs benefit no one. Good clean competition is a much more pleasant environment for all concerned and a better example for the children who attend. Celebrate your team and its victory and give yourselves a pat on the back for being great fans.

Thanks, Gwendolyn, that was very nice of you. We do have great fans and a great team. We are proud and happy that we could meet a class team like Memphis in the finals. You deserve all the accolades you have given us. I hope we both make it to the end next year. Your team had a great season and certainly nothing to hang your heads about. They were rated Number 1 for a very long time and remained undefeated for 20 some games, That is incredible!

I remember a memphis player intentionally bumping into Aldrich after a dunk, showboating.

Familiar pattern or selective publishing?KU fans were also complimented by VaTech fans in a letter to the editor for their conduct at the Orange Bowl. I am sensing a familiar pattern that KU fans are classy all-around.However, I know there are always bad apples out there, so I am curious if the LJW gets letters from opposing fans angry about our conduct and just chooses not to publish those. And I am not referring to the retards in Missouri who write the paper to talk smack. I am talking about legit complaints about KU fan behavior.

A perfect way to measure a program is by the integrity of the fans, regardless of the outcome!

Thanks Gwendolyn! But, you should know, we save the name calling and put-downs for the Missouri Tigers. That's just how we roll.PS. I totally agree with nschmi04, some of those Memphis players are thugs.
