Health clinic awarded $40K in cancer fight

The Douglas County Health Care Access Clinic received a $40,000 grant from the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Greater Kansas City Affiliate last week.

Twenty-two local agencies were awarded $900,000, including the clinic, to provide breast cancer screening exams and outreach to women.

The Douglas County clinic, 1920 Moodie Road, provides health care to people with limited incomes who are not covered by private or governmental insurance programs.

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure began in 1982. It is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting against breast cancer.

The Kansas City affiliate began in 1999 and has raised $5.3 million for Kansas City breast health and breast cancer programs.
