Governor reappoints Lawrence resident

Denise Bonner, Lawrence, has been reappointed to serve a three-year term on the Kansas Credit Union Council.

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius reappointed council members Bonner and Alvis “Lee” Williams, Wichita, and appointed a new member: Sue Ellen Henke, Topeka.

Bonner manages at Wakarusa Valley Credit Union, 2721 W. Sixth St., in Lawrence. She originally was appointed to the council in March 2005.

The council supervises and regulates credit unions and works with the Kansas Department of Credit Unions. The goal is to protect Kansans from undue financial risk through the examination and supervision of credit unions and to assure safe and sound operation and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

“Many Kansans look to credit unions as a place to keep their savings or secure loans,” Sebelius said. “This council will ensure investments are safe and secure.”
