Construction worker injured in accident

A 22-year-old construction worker at Kansas University’s Student Recreation Fitness Center was flown to a Kansas City-area hospital Friday morning after he was struck by a piece of equipment.

Capt. Schuyler Bailey, of the KU Public Safety Office, said Jacob Smith suffered a possible hip injury. According to Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical, his injury was not life-threatening.

Smith works for D’Agostino Mechanical Contractors of Kansas City, Kan.

Kansas University Hospital spokesman Bob Hallinan said Friday afternoon a condition update was unavailable because of the hospital’s patient privacy policy.
