To the editor:

The Kansas state motto is: Ad astra per aspera, to the stars through difficulties. If our KU men’s basketball team does not embody that phrase, I don’t know what does. Many of them had a rough journey just getting here. Once here, the road was arduous both on and off the court for them. They worked hard, they made sacrifices, and they suffered the loss of beloved family members. And they still went on to prove that they are the best men’s basketball team in the nation!

To the team, the stars are shining brightly on you, you beautiful, young, persevering men, and I hope that wherever the rest of your journey takes you, that you will keep a special place in your hearts for this small burg called Lawrence, Kansas, because we will always have a special place in our hearts for you. God bless you. We love you! And we are so proud of you.
