Class act

To the editor:

Kudos to the team and coaches on their fabulous win Monday night.

They are worthy champions who represent the university and the Lawrence community with class. As a transplanted Jayhawk who was with KU in 1988 and for 10 years thereafter, the only disturbing part to me of the entire tournament was the disrespect that some of the KU faithful directed toward Roy Williams. I fully understand the angst that accompanied Roy’s departure. But, hopefully, the incredible Kansas win over North Carolina in the semifinals and the triumph Monday night will go a long ways to dissipate any remaining animosity toward Roy.

Coach Williams led the program for 15 years, adding many rich chapters to Jayhawk basketball tradition. He bleeds Carolina blue (always has), but he also still has a lot of crimson and blue in his heart.

KU is a special place, and what has made it special is that traditionally the university and the community have exemplified a class act. Relish the third national championship, and perpetuate the tradition that makes Kansas great.
