Circus fan

To the editor:

After reading through all the exciting articles on our Kansas Jayhawks basketball team Tuesday morning and enjoying every minute of it, I finally made it to the Pulse section. I found another article of great interest to me. It was about the circus experience of a Lawrence resident as a child in the 1960s with a traveling circus. What an enjoyable story it was. It is an experience he will never forget. As a member of Circus Fans of America, it saddens me to think that our children of today in Douglas Country cannot enjoy an experience like this. The reason is because the Douglas County Commission as a governing body on June 29, 2005, passed an ordinance that bans all exotic animals on traveling circuses from putting on a show within the boundaries of Douglas County. This ordinance took away our right to experience a traveling circus on our Douglas County soil forever.

It is a happy day to be a Jayhawk basketball fan but a sad one if you love the circus.
