To the editor:

On behalf of the University of Kansas, including our national champion men’s basketball team, I want to thank all of the law enforcement, fire and medical personnel from Lawrence, KU and surrounding communities for their important work in keeping people safe during the last few days’ festivities.

Law enforcement officers from all over the area made sure Massachusetts Street was a place where fans of all ages could gather to cheer on the Jayhawks, while fire and medical personnel assisted anyone who needed help. And staff from the city did an outstanding job in quickly returning downtown to its usual luster.

I also want to thank all of the KU fans who heeded Coach Self’s request for Jayhawks to celebrate safely. With the spotlight on KU, Jayhawks showed why they’re the best fans in the nation.

Congratulations to coach Self and his team, thank you to all of the men and women who made these last few days so memorable, and Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
