Constituent view

To the editor:

Rep. Tom Sloan, R-Lawrence, should be commended for his strong advocacy for renewable energy and energy conservation measures. However, his two recent votes in favor of the two coal-fired plants negate all of his hard work. These plants would emit 11 million tons of carbon dioxide annually, which would cancel out any benefits gained by future energy conservation measures and the development of more wind farms.

It is my belief that the voters of Lawrence overwhelmingly support strong measures to reduce the impact of global warming. That is why they are overwhelmingly opposed to the two coal-fired plants. Why is Rep. Sloan voting against the wishes of his constituents?
