OK, admit it: You haven’t seen enough of Dick Vitale during KU’s tromp through March Madness and into the Final Four.

Don’t worry. Now’s your opportunity to see and hear from the college hoops aficionado once again – on a giant, wall-sized screen no less – during an upcoming leadership seminar to be shown next week.

“He’ll fill the screen,” said James Bush, local organizer for the event. “I’m thinking that should be a pretty good draw for people in Lawrence. He’s got a heart for KU, so I would think his name alone would be a nice draw.”

And Vitale will be far from alone. The ESPN basketball analyst is among several authors, business coaches and leadership gurus lined up to participate in “Maximum Impact,” the latest in a series of leadership seminars conducted by simulcast from Atlanta.

In Lawrence, the simulcast show will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Free Methodist Church, 3001 Lawrence Ave.

Cost is $59 in advance or $79 at the door.

For the price of admission, attendees will get an opportunity to see and hear from a variety of leaders, including:

¢ Valorie Burton, a professional executive coach.

¢ Kevin Carroll, founder of The Katalyst Consultancy.

¢ Dan Cathy, president of Chick-fil-A.

¢ Spencer Tillman, a CBS Sports analyst.

¢ Andy Stanley, author of “Visioneering.”

¢ Bill Taylor, founding editor of Fast Company.

Also scheduled is a lunchtime local leadership summit.

Slated to participate live at Free Methodist Church will be Hank Booth, of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce; Charles Branson, Douglas County district attorney; Chris Davis, boys basketball coach at Lawrence High School; and Erika Dvorske, president and chief executive officer of the United Way of Douglas County.

A business leader will be added to the schedule as Maximum Impact approaches.

In the end, participants in Lawrence will be among an anticipated 80,000 people listening in and participating nationwide, Bush said.

And the topic of leadership in Lawrence is as important as ever, he said, as the community looks to identify, nurture and learn from visionary leaders for the years ahead.

“Our event will add to the public conversation that’s already taking place,” said Bush, who has organized two previous showings of Maximum Impact during the past three years. “And this will be more than just a pep talk.”

Attendees will learn how to take the leadership initiative, and pick up skill sets to help with their own decision-making matters and “discerning what to do when facing your own leadership dilemmas.”

And there’s always Vitale – and more.

“There’s something for everyone,” Bush said.
