Firebirds senior Leah Williams scored a goal, but Free State High’s soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback to Washburn Rural on Monday at FSHS.

With the loss, the Firebirds fell to 1-4; Rural improved to 5-0-1.

Free State coach Jason Pendleton cited Sarah Parrish for her strong play.

Free State is now 0-2 following its victory over Lawrence High on April 2.

Next up, the Firebirds will travel to Shawnee Mission North today.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
