Sidewalk work to wrap next week

Work should be completed by the end of next week on a sidewalk project that has affected traffic on parts of Sixth Street.

Construction crews are building a new sidewalk to fill a gap in the city’s sidewalk system between Trail and Rockledge roads. The project is part of a larger $250,000 sidewalk replacement program that the city’s public works department received funding for in 2007.

Commissioners agreed last summer to make the Sixth Street project among its top sidewalk projects because city engineers said it was important to fill sidewalk gaps along major state highways in the city. The area also receives some pedestrian traffic because it leads to the city’s Greyhound bus stop in the Conoco station at 2447 W. Sixth St.
