Stadium seating

To the editor:

What does Kansas University’s Memorial Stadium have that all the great college football stadiums don’t have?

Answer: A track inside the stadium.

I can’t believe Lew Perkins has announced that he is spending money to install a new track in lieu of building a separate facility. Tear out the track! Lower the field. Add seats at the bottom of the stadium. Put the students and other fans close to the action where they belong! Create a real home-field advantage.

The engineering studies done over 10 years ago showed that seven rows can be added. No other Big 12 team has a track inside their stadium! None of the great college venues have a track that separates the fans from the action: the Big House, the Horseshoe, the Swamp, Florida State, ‘Bama, LSU, Notre Dame, etc. The list is long. KU is on a very short list of schools that seat their fans away from the action.
