A new leader is in charge of day-to-day operations of Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical, while Chief Mark Bradford is in the hospital.

Lawrence City Manager David Corliss said that Division Chief Bill Stark has been appointed as the acting chief.

Details about Bradford’s ailment were not available on Thursday.

“I will not discuss the personal health matters of city employees,” Corliss said.

But a spokeswoman at Lawrence Memorial Hospital said Bradford was in good condition late Thursday afternoon.

Bradford has been fire chief since late 2005.
