Robbery sentence set at 2 1/2 years

A Douglas County District Court judge Tuesday sentenced a 22-year-old man to 30 months behind bars for his role in a robbery and attempted robbery at two Lawrence convenience stores.

Frank Dean pleaded guilty, as part of an agreement with prosecutors, to two counts of attempted robbery. The charges stemmed from two incidents during the early morning hours of June 26.

Dean and another man were arrested after a failed robbery attempt at the Kwik Shop at Ninth and Mississippi streets. Police believe that earlier that morning the two successfully robbed a clerk at the Kwik Shop at 19th and Massachusetts streets.

The judge sentenced Dean to 30 months on one count and 11 months on the other but said he could serve the sentences concurrently.

No charges have been filed against the other suspect.
