Free State volleyball goes 2-0; Lions swept
FSHS volleyball win pair at SM Northwest
Shawnee – Free State High’s volleyball team went 2-0 on Friday in volleyball at Shawnee Mission Northwest.
The Firebirds defeated SM South, 25-21, 25-9, and SM Northwest, 25-21, 25-4.
Brooke Carter converted 18 serves in a row at one point for the Firebirds, 8-2 overall and 5-0 in Sunflower League play.
“It started a little sluggish. We came on very strong at the end,” Free State coach Nancy Hopkins said. “In the first game of each match, the score was really close – the second game the score was lopsided. I am not sure exactly what that means.”
LHS volleyball winless at O-South
Olathe – Lawrence High’s volleyball team went 0-3 Thursday at the Olathe South quadrangular.
The Lions fell to Olathe South, 19-25, 17-25; Blue Valley, 21-25, 12-25; and Olathe Northwest, 18-25, 18-25.
Lindsey Murray had 15 kills and Tayler Tolefree 11. Rachel Van Horn had 29 assists, Emily Bracciano 11 digs and Kate Melton nine digs for the Lions, 1-5 on the season.
“The scores didn’t reflect the way the girls played together. We’re turning some corners,” LHS coach Stephanie Magnuson said.
FSHS tennis rolls over Miege, 9-0
Kansas City, Mo. – Free State’s girls tennis team dropped just nine games in a 9-0 rout of Roeland Park Miege on Thursday at the Plaza tennis courts.
The closest FSHS victory was an 8-3 decision by top doubles team Jessica Wuthrich and Carly Fish. Four of the other eight matches were 8-0 FSHS victories.
