Sports coverage

To the editor:

I know that sports reporting is a genre of its own and is not particularly important to everyone. But the Journal-World seems to be very myopically focused on KU. True, this is a “local” institution, but two whole pages to a game where they crushed yet another cream puff visiting team? And yet only a few square inches to the Big 12 Conference that KU belongs to and the national picture where some significant games were played.

Powerhouse Michigan lost yet another home game, and the University of Oklahoma, a Big 12 school, thrashed an old nemesis, the University of Miami. Yet there was only a brief mention of either and some tiny numbers in a small area. KU has demonstrated its disdain of the local economy with moving home football games to Kansas City. And yet they rate two full pages of coverage for the blowout no one would have ever doubted. I wonder if they will give similar coverage when someone like Nebraska visits a similar fate to good old KU?
