Poehler Building plan up for city approval

A Lawrence developer is seeking the city’s permission to move ahead with plans for turning an old building in East Lawrence into a new home for offices, shops and residences.

Cinco Hombres LLC, led by Bo Harris, has filed a site plan for redeveloping the Poehler Building, 619 E. Eighth St. Plans call for extending Delaware Street – plus adding on-street parking and street trees – between Eighth and Ninth streets, running along the east side of the project.

The Lawrence Historic Resources Commission already has recommended approval of a site plan for the project, provided the building’s second floor is used for residential uses. The latest version of the site plan would allow the second floor to be used for offices, a change that would require Historic Resources Commission approval once again.

In any case, the city’s planning staff recommends approving the latest site plan. City commissioners are scheduled to consider the site plan during their next meeting, which begins at 6:35 tonight at City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets.

The project is part of ongoing redevelopment of the area of Eighth and Pennsylvania streets.
