Periodontists receive diplomate status

Mark Edwards and Angela N. Wilson, Lawrence, received diplomate status this year from the American Board of Periodontology, the national certifying board for the dental specialty of periodontics, which involves the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of gum disease.

The board grants diplomate status to professionals who complete a written and oral examination, following two to three years of postdoctoral advanced specialty training.

Edwards received his advanced certification in periodontics from Louisiana State University Medical Center. He is a part-time professor in the Department of Graduate Periodontics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Wilson received her advanced certificate in periodontics from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Edwards and Wilson are past presidents of the Douglas County Dental Society.
