Lee’s Summit, Mo. ? The Free State High volleyball team won three of its five matches Saturday at the MoKan Invitational at Lee’s Summit West and finished sixth out of 16 teams.

The Firebirds opened with two three-game thrillers against Park Hill and Shawnee Mission Northwest.

Free State won both, dispatching Park Hill, 25-13, 21-25, 25-20, and SM Northwest, 25-12, 23-25, 25-16.

Free State lost to Roeland Park Miege, 24-26, 13-25, before rallying to topple O’Hara (Mo.), 12-25, 25-20, 27-25.

In their final match, the Firebirds fell to Blue Springs (Mo.), 18-25, 18-25.

Free State (6-1) will compete at a triangular Thursday at Shawnee Mission Northwest.
