Education funding

To the editor:

I sent a letter regarding the predatory lending practices of some lenders to which Leonard Gehrt replied. My theme was that government had not done anything to help the borrowers, only the banks and corporate lenders who had preyed on people uneducated in the mortgage system.

I have to say I absolutely agree with Mr. Gehrt in his theme that the problem is the lack of resources in our public education system that should be addressed.

I recently saw a bumper sticker on a teacher’s desk where I was filling in as her “substitute.” It said, “Wouldn’t it be nice if education had all the resources it wanted and when the Air Force wanted a new plane they had to hold a bake sale.”

One thing in common I observed about people drawing welfare benefits in my 25 years as a bureaucrat in the system was that the recipients didn’t read, write and count very well.
