Free State tops Shawnee Mission South 57-14

Getting a rare start at running back, senior Ryder Werts rushed for 84 yards and three first-half TDs to lead Free State High to a 57-14 victory against host Shawnee Mission South Friday night.

Werts got the start in place of Chucky Hunter, who was benched the first half of the game for missing a practice. Hunter rushed for 90 yards and a TD in the second half.

Senior quarterback Craig Rosenstengle passed for 174 yards and a TD and rushed for 89 yards and 2 TDs for the Firebirds (1-1).
