FDIC chairwoman to present lecture

The chairwoman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. will be in Lawrence on Sept. 17 to speak with Kansas University students and members of the local banking community.

Sheila Bair, a KU alumna, was sworn in as chairwoman in June 2006. She plans to speak on topics ranging from the problems in the sub-prime mortgage industry, payday loans and the lack of financial literacy among Americans, according to Toni Dixon, KU School of Business spokeswoman.

Bair’s visit is part of the Anderson Chandler Lecture Series, which last spring brought Alan Mulally, CEO of Ford Motor Co. and a KU alumnus, to campus.

Bair’s lecture is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Lied Center. Tickets are not required and the speech is open to the public.
