Holiday hours announced

Government offices and public services in Lawrence will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.

All city, county, district court and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the general services administration and the federal courts. They will also be closed in area towns.

Banks will be closed.

Lawrence Transit System buses will not run, and both fixed route and paratransit buses will not run. Most KU on Wheels buses will not operate, but a limited number of Park & Ride routes will be run from the West Campus lot to the main campus.

Grass and leaves will not be collected Monday, but crews will pick them up with regular residential collection later in the week. Commercial collection will be completed Monday.

To report a water or sewer emergency after regular business hours or during weekends and holidays, call 843-2685.

Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department will be closed, as will the Lawrence Workforce Center, 2540 Iowa, Suite R.

Lawrence Public Library will be closed today and Monday.

Parking meters in downtown Lawrence will be free Monday.

All city recreation facilities will be closed Monday. No recreational classes, special events, special-population classes, adult sports or youth sports will take place.

Eagle Bend Golf Course, 1250 E. 902 Road, will accept tee times from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday.

The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Ky., will be open from 1 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Monday is the last day the pool will be open for the season. The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, also will be open Monday.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels will not deliver. The Douglas County Senior Services Senior Meals Program also won’t deliver, nor will meal sites be open. The senior center, 745 Vt., will be closed.

The Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen, 221 W. 10th St., will serve a meal from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

The post office won’t make regular deliveries Monday. FedEx and UPS will not make regular deliveries.

The Journal-World’s customer service department will be open for calls and walk-ins from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday.

No holiday edition of USA Today will be printed.

Liquor stores are allowed to be open from noon to 8 p.m.
