Help appreciated
To the editor:
Good Samaritans abound in Lawrence! Scott Zaremba, our Samaritan, would not accept a reward for his kindness. We two octogenarians appreciated what he did for us and wish to tell people about it.
Last Sunday we took a drive, exploring the gravel roads toward Baldwin. Finally heading for home, we reached Highway 59 into Lawrence and just on the outskirts heard that awful sound which my husband recognized as a flat tire.
He pulled over, raised the trunk to begin the chore, and up drove Scott in a pickup truck with two little boys. He had been behind us when it happened. He instructed my husband to back up and pull into a field where there was a level spot, then they got to work looking for our jack, etc., (under a pile of paper recyclables). I held the instruction book – my sole contribution to the effort except for finding a missing part of the jack.
It took a while to find everything and, meanwhile, up drove two Kansas Highway Patrol cars. Two male and one female patrol officers came over to assist if necessary. They provided a missing tool and stayed until we were on our way, but it was Scott who changed our tire. My husband would have attempted it, and might have succeeded, but he might also have ended up in the hospital!
How fortunate we were to be so very well taken care of! Thank you, Scott! I love Lawrence!
Helen Crockett,
Lawrence
