Suspect arrested in store robberies

Lawrence police have arrested a suspect in seven recent aggravated robberies, mostly at convenience stores.

According to police, a 19-year-old Topeka man was arrested Thursday after robberies were committed about 8:30 p.m. at Kwik Shop, 845 Miss., and at 9 p.m. at another Kwik Shop, 3440 W. Sixth St. Police said Friday the man is a suspect in five other aggravated robberies between Oct. 15 and Sunday.

On Thursday night, police were called to the store on Mississippi Street when an employee said a man with a knife demanded cash and ran away with $40.

During the investigation, a detective then spotted the suspect at the Kwik Shop on Sixth Street, and officers arrested him after they allege he committed another robbery there, according to a police statement.

Police also arrested a second suspect, an 18-year-old Topeka man, on one count of aiding and abetting while the man was in a vehicle about two blocks away from the store on Sixth Street.

According to police, officers recovered a knife and cash consistent with what was taken in the Mississippi Street store robbery.
