Welcome to Art a la Carte. I'm Journal-World arts editor Mindie Paget.
Most of us are familiar with the line 'Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair.'Â But what do we really know about the rest of the story? The Seem-To-Be Players will bring the Grimm Brothers fairy tale to the stage this weekend, revealing the power of the betowered maiden's locks. Shows are at 7 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Lawrence Arts Center.
Also this evening, nine Lawrence galleries will open their doors for the Downtown Gallery Walk. Among the artists featured at the quarterly event will be Walt Hull, a local blacksmith who crafts metal sculptures at his studio south of Lawrence. His work will be on view at Diane's Artisan Gallery, where information about other participating venues is available. The event runs from 7 to 9 this evening.
And art enthusiasts will get a chance to see even more creative work on Saturday and Sunday, when Douglas County artists open their studios for the 13th annual Lawrence ArtWalk. There will be more than 50 participants at 34 locations to check out. Guide maps are available at the Lawrence Arts Center. The walk runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 on Sunday.
I'm Mindie Paget with Art a la Carte.
