Islam debate

To the editor:

I’m not a Muslim, but I know that what Carol Mills asserts in her Oct. 19 letter is false. In writing, “Muslims never say they worship the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob!” she makes it clear that she has never read the Koran, the principal sacred text of Islam. Abraham and his relationship with God is a central theme in this text, as is that of Jesus. One of the central tenets of Islam is the rejection of idolatry. Christians who assert that Allah is a pagan “Moon God” should be prepared to admit that their own core beliefs have clear and well-documented roots in paganism.

Claiming that Muslims worship a different god – the “Moon God” – on the basis of their symbolism is as offensive as saying that Christians worship a different god – the “Lamb God” – on the basis of theirs. The old adage applies: “People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”
