New city park set to be dedicated Wednesday

Sesquicentennial Point – the new city park to commemorate the city’s 150th birthday – is set to be dedicated.

The ceremony will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the point, 6000 W. 27th St. The point is on property below the Clinton Lake Dam and near the city’s off-leash dog park.

The point includes a plaza near the top of the hill that overlooks Clinton Lake and the Wakarusa River valley. A walkway of engraved steps goes down the hill and leads to a time capsule that was buried in 2004.

The ceremony also will recognize the city’s Sesquicentennial Commission. From 1999 to 2007, the group raised about $200,000 to help finance the construction of the point.

In the event of inclement weather, the dedication will be at 4 p.m. on Nov. 2.
